Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist IV to join the Wadsworth Center's Bioinformatic Core in pioneering AI/ML workflows for next-generation sequencing data and biological imaging analysis. The Research Scientist IV will work closely with the Director of Bioinformatics to create and implement artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) workflows for the analysis of next generation sequencing data and biological imaging. The incumbent will be responsible for designing AI based bioinformatic workflows in the cloud. Emphasis will be placed on implementing workflows that take full advantage of cloud computing benefits, including scalability, efficient resource utilization, high-performance computing capabilities, and seamless integration with existing bioinformatics tools and databases.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of research experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field and four years of research experience; or a Doctorate in a related field and two years of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in cloud computing environments, specifically Google Cloud Platform. Fluency in troubleshooting/optimizing scripting languages such as Python. Experience with AI/ML frameworks and/or image classification methodologies (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.). Experience with scalable or parallel programming in an AI/ML environment. Use and creation of software application containers and workflow tools, e.g., Docker; GitHub; Nextflow expertise. Application of next-generation sequencing (NGS) oriented bioinformatic software tools and workflows. Experience with routing data flow between multiple applications and partner informatics systems. Experience working in collaborative scientific settings.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.
