CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:

The General Government Service Center (GGSC) within the Department of Administrative and Financial Services is looking to add an Accounting Tech to our team. The accounting tech will support several agencies within GGSC.

This position provides paraprofessional support work involving the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines in maintaining and assisting senior accounting personnel responsible for maintaining complex accounts within an establish accounting system. This position is expected to examine, account for, reconcile, analyze, and interpret basic accounting data and records in accordance with GAAP/GASB standards, state/agency accounting procedures, and appropriate internal controls. The position uses and applies basic accounting theory to analyze and resolve standard accounting transaction problems. This position, under the direction of their supervisor, manages the daily accounting for several agencies within GGSC.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is technical accounting services work as well as paraprofessional support work involving the review of financial transactions and the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.

Employees in this classification examine, account for, reconcile, analyze, and interpret basic accounting data and records in accordance with GAAP/GASB standards, state/agency accounting procedures, and appropriate internal controls. Employees use and apply basic accounting theory to analyze and resolve standard accounting transaction problems. Employees interact with program staff to exchange information, explain accounting processes, and resolve accounting discrepancies and disputes.

This position operates as a member of the Accounting Division responsible for analyzing, preparing and paying invoices, billing, deposits, and journal vouchers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology.

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting standards and systems.

  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.

  • Knowledge of standardized desktop technology and products.

  • Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to account for revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

  • Ability to review fiscal transactions for conformity with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An Associates Degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting-OR-

  • Any Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution that includes 12 semester hours in accounting coursework-OR-

  • 3 years of practical work experience providing complex technical support to professional accounting staff. Accounting coursework must include successful completion of Principles of Accounting I & II plus two other accounting-related courses. Experience must demonstrate comprehension and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
