Job Description
The GE Healthcare Pharmaceutical Diagnostics business (PDx) is a $2 billion global enterprise. As the PDx EMEA Region Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting in line with US GAAP requirements. You will provide accounting guidance to both finance and operational teams and will help to assess and mitigate financial risks for the business. This role will lead and support a number of commercial controllership projects in the EMEA region that will help to both simplify and bring consistency to processes and mitigate risks for the business as it continues to grow.
Location: Remote in Hungary or in the UK
Essential Responsibilities
Business Partnering
Build strong relationships with the Finance and Operational teams and have the necessary expertise to understand and resolve technical or operational issues and engage the relevant Centre of Excellence (CoE) teams as required
Provide business partnership and accounting guidance for complex commercial deals as well as support Commercial Finance teams with R&O management
Provide business partnership and accounting guidance for complex non-commercial accounting matters
EMEA clawback taxes e.g. PPRS (UK), AIFA (Italy) – provide C’ship support to changes in business strategy and determine appropriate accounting.
Commercial Controllership
Ensure compliance with the commercial contracting policies (Policies 5.0 & 6.0) to assess and monitor any business or accounting risk and support. Drive consistency of PDx Policy 5.0 Red Flags globally. Maintain EMEA Pricing Approval workflow
Prepare Balance Sheet variance analysis for commercial accounts on regular basis, identify unusual movements and manage resolution
Bad debt reserve (BDR) – share estimates with the Commercial Finance teams; work with GEHC Global team on any tool enhancements; review annual CECL rate updates; ensure compliance with the BDR policy; keep up-to-date with specific reserves
PDx quarter-end revenue recognition/Red Day process:
Lead quarter-end Red Day revenue recognition process for PDx EMEA
Embed process to ensure completeness of Red Day landscape and regular validation of PDx Red Days
Look for opportunities to simplify and automate PDx Red Day quarter-end processes
Revisit fact pattern and document exceptions to Red Day process.
Compliance
Monitor and review that appropriate internal controls are in place, in line with local statutory laws and US GAAP. Take accountability for robustness of the financial control processes
Drive closure of open audit issues (both Deloitte and internal audit) and proactively work to prevent future issues / manage risk. Where required, oversee resulting corrective action process in CoE teams
Closely partner with the Compliance organization to ensure compliance-related initiatives are implemented and maintained e.g. Improper Payment Prevention, Anti Money Laundering, Know Your Customer etc.
Payments to Channel Partners – ensure compliance with the GEHC policy. Ensure appropriate and consistent accounting is being applied to Channel Partner payments
Other
- Provide leadership in the region for GEHC controllership initiatives and simplification projects
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other business-related field and 10+ years progressive accounting or finance experience
Demonstrated proficiency in US GAAP and authoritative accounting literature (i.e. FASB pronouncements).
Desired Characteristics
CPA/ACCA Chartered Accountant
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex business issues in clear/concise manner
Strong analytical skills; able to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers, generate alternatives and drive positive change
Clear thinking/problem solving: successfully led projects/process improvements within operations/finance functions
Adaptable/Flexible: being open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
