Proposed Salary Range:$21.94 - $26.44 Schedule:1st Shift Department:Cathode

The Machine Keeper III maintains the production machinery in proper operating order through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

In addition to performing the following duties, a Machine Keeper III must be able to perform all the duties of a Machine Keeper I and II.

Performs preventative maintenance procedures on all machines in department assigned to include:

  • Determines when to check setting, gauge readings, sensors, etc.,on regular basis to keep machines operating at proper specifications.
  • Knows proper specifications for each of the machines in department.
  • Troubleshoots problems to include:Checks settings, gauges and sensors and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Inspects the internal components of the machines by disassembly of machinery parts.
  • Examines the from, texture, and dimensions of the machine parts to detect wear and/or imperfections.
  • Restores machines to correct operating functions:Makes mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic adjustments.
  • Overhauls or repairs mechanical parts.
  • Coordinates with Machinery Group to do adjustments/repairs on electrical or electronic functions.
  • Assembles machines once disassembled.
  • Analyzes downtime and quality deficiencies and makes recommendations on how to improve.
  • Instructs operators on how to do minor repairs and adjustments to machines.
  • Performs process testing.
  • Records data from process test along with control lots.
  • Understands the impact that his/her area has on the other areas of process.
  • Understands basic battery theory.
  • Initiates improvement plans for his/her area.
  • Monitors scrap rate in has/her area and takes action to improve.
  • Monitors production rate in his/her area and takes action to improve.
  • Initiates revisions and improvements of maintenance check sheet items.
  • Understands mechanical drawing concerning his/her area.
  • Can perform some machine shop duties.
  • Can perform electronic functions.
  • Is able to make clear decisions involving operator assignments.
  • Trains other machine keepers.
  • Able to teach small groups in a class room setting.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to safety and environmental protection procedures and work instructions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and four years work experience operating and repairing manufacturing machinery or equivalent in vocational training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability tospeak effectively with vendors or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Must be able to understand and use English and Metric units of measure.Basic knowledge of EMS work instructions and Hazardous Waste Management rocedures relevant to positions for which assigned. Training may include, but not limited to, on-the-job training, department reviews and internal/external training. Must have knowledge within operating parameters specified by permits and EMS Work Instructions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
