Queen's Health System Unit Secretary, Emergency Services (Big Island, Call-In) in Kamuela, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs tasks of registration, admission, receipt of insurance information and other select duties associated with inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Room services.
• Performs and coordinates administrative and clerical support functions to facilitate delivery of effective and efficient patient care on the unit/department.
• Fulfills duties of a PBX operator “after hours.” Relays and expedites incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls for the department and hospital. Functions as the communication center for security, team leaders, supervisors, physicians, and plays a key role in emergency response communications.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Seeing, hearing, speaking, finger dexterity, standing, sitting, walking.
• Continuous: stooping/bending; reaching above, at, and below shoulder level.
• Frequent: lifting and carrying weight up to 15 pounds.
• Occasional: lifting usual weight up to 50 pounds.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• May be exposed to body fluids from specimens
• May be exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illnesses). Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
• Required Personal Protective Equipment: Mask and non-sterile gloves advised when handling specimens or when there is a possibility to body fluid exposure. Understands OSHA requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
• Six (6) months medical office, admissions or insurance billing experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, third party payer regulations and financial requirements.
• Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
o Good interpersonal skills and telephone etiquette.
o Knowledge and skills in use of general office equipment.
o Ability to work under changing situations and interruptions.
o Ability to maintain highly sensitive, confidential material.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and local collection regulations preferred.
