THE UTAH GREENHOUSE COMPANY Farm Worker (Temporary) in MONA, Utah

Temporary Need: 02/12/24 - 12/07/24. Fifty-seven (57) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm Workers needed. Requirements: A minimum of three (3) months experience in commercial crop production, with greenhouse experience preferred. Workers must be able to perform manual as well as mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. Wage is $16.34/hour. Piece rate offer: $0.01. Location: Work will be performed in Mona, Utah. Will work 40 hrs/wk, Mon-Sat. 7:00am-2:30pm. Duties: Crops/Commodities: Tomatoes. This job requires a minimum of three months of verifiable prior experience in commercial crop production, with greenhouse experience preferred. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. Workers must be able to perform manual as well as mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Plant, cultivate and harvest tomatoes in a greenhouse operation. Activities may include lowering and clipping plants, removing shoots, truss pruning and clipping, de-leafing, and harvesting plants. Use of hand tools including, but not limited to: shovels, brooms, clippers, rakes, and knives. Workers will plant new crops, interplant young plants and transplant plants by hand. Workers may pick, cut, lift, or pull crops, and grade, size and pack product. Workers will install coco bags, install drippers, and hang hooks. Workers will also be responsible for grading, packing and weighing product, stacking and de-stacking product and supplies. Workers will take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. Work will include bending and reaching, lowering and raising vines as required. Must be able to lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Use power equipment including but not limited to: sprayers, high lifts, fork lifts, and power bees. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate and crop conditions. Assist with greenhouse and pack house maintenance and repairs. Use, possession, transfer, offer, sale or manufacture of marijuana and/or controlled substances strictly prohibited. All work sites are alcohol and drug free workplaces. Employees must not report for work, enter the employers' property or perform service while under the influence of or having used alcohol, marijuana, illegal controlled substances, or any other substance that may in any way adversely affect their alertness, coordination, reaction or safety. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Work is done in the greenhouse or pack house for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 40 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work is required in greenhouses with high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in working hours can range from60 to over 110 degrees F. Sensitivity to light, allergies to bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Workers must obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be able to recognize, understand and comply with s afety, pesticide wa ning/re-entry and other essential postings. Workers must operate equipment, with or without direction, in a manner that protects operator, visitors, other workers, products, trees, crops and equipment. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. Tobacco use strictly prohibited. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, worker housing, or anywhere on company premises. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins and contamination from tobacco by-products. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found smoking or in possession of smoking materials, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco or smoking paraphernalia. Workers failing to produce a sufficient number of piece rate units to earn the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR) for all hours worked during a pay period will be paid on an hourly basis at the AEWR for that pay period. Terms and conditions of employment: Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. Saturday work required. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Tools, room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to workers. Workers must be available for the entire work period; work at a sustained, vigorous pace on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Workers are required to keep all property, housing, and farm buildings clean, and must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor; employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated; will work outdoors in all types of weather and occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes; must be able to provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked in crop harvesting during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer ($15.464/day, maximum $59/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage that is issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed.
