Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, provides analytic and data management support for research projects. The Genes, Environment, and Neurodevelopment in Addictions (GENA) research program in the Center for Psychiatric Health and Genomics is hiring a Research Teaching Specialist III to support a federally funded program of research on the factors that contribute to the onset, persistence, and recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders across the lifespan. Specific lines of inquiry include gene-environment interplay and characterizing how genetic and environmental risk factors are transmitted within families.As further detailed below, the Research Teaching Specialist III will be responsible for data analysis and visualization for scientific publications and grant proposals, the development and maintenance of data management protocols for research studies, and related research tasks.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs statistical consultation and data analysis and interprets results under the supervision of the Director to support epidemiological research on alcohol and drug use disorders and related conditions. Prepares drafts of analytic approach and results sections for scientific journal articles and grant proposals.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of data management protocols using statistical software programs such as R (and other statistical software depending on project needs) to clean, manage, and merge multimodal data for the design and analysis of longitudinal, genetically informative studies.
  • Assists with the preparation of data documentation and data archiving, consistent with requirements of funders.
  • Participates in the design of electronic data capture forms to collect data to ensure the collection of high-quality data.
  • Designs statistical graphs and charts and other publication-quality data visualizations to present meaningful and scientifically valid data summaries for research projects.
  • Assists with the preparation of statistical training and instructional material.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
  • Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are in the process of obtaining their degree. Documentation of the degree must be provided prior to the commencement of employment.
