The Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant (NE S UAW RSE) supports Cell biology of Giardia lamblia – support NIH funded research in the Paredez Lab.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with daily laboratory functions; prepare stock solutions, maintain lab inventory, receive packages, handle chemical and biohazardous waste: 5%.

  • Cell culture: maintain cell lines: 10%.

  • DNA plasmid preparation (mini/midi preps): 5%.

  • Generate transgenic parasites: 5%.

  • Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and DNA cloning: 5%.

  • Live and fixed fluorescence microscopy: 10%.

  • Image processing: 10%.

  • Organize and record generated data and materials: 10%.

  • Assist PI and laboratory members with experiments: 20%.

  • Participate in laboratory meetings: 5%.

  • Perform related duties such as ordering supplies as required: 5%.

  • Perform established molecular and cell biological protocols: 10%. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor's degree in biology (biology related fields).

  • 1 year of experience.

  • Basic molecular biology skills including the ability to design and produce constructs (primer design, PCR, gibson or traditional cloning, minipreps, plasmid sequencing and analysis).

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with sterile culture, buffer preparation, and microscopy.
