RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:

Building and Grounds Supervisor and Assistant Building and Grounds Supervisor

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Perform a variety of skilled building and related facility maintenance and grounds work. Fix and maintain mechanical equipment, buildings, and machines. General maintenance and repairs throughout the School District buildings, structures and sports fields as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Capacity to operate basic machines and equipment to perform work functions; starting, controlling, adjusting and stopping machines or equipment including mowers, seeders and fertilization equipment.

  • Knowledge and use of basic hand tools and safety procedures.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of maintenance terminology in the form of work instructions, operating manual procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.

  • Ability to relate effectively with staff, students, and parents.

  • Knowledge of construction standards and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and operation.

  • Knowledge of sports field inspection, repair and preparation.

  • Education:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required.

  • Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid Iowa Driver License required.

  • Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience with maintenance work preferred.

  • Equipment:

  • Maintenance equipment such as building equipment, snow removal equipment, basic hand tools, power tools, and driving vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs equipment when necessary making sure all work orders are completed.

  • Advise department supervisor of serious problems or in-depth corrective action needed on building systems.

  • Keep building safe and secure. Make sure all doors, locks, security equipment and alarms are in working condition. Replace or repair when necessary.

  • Monitor and inspect all air handling equipment and parts; belts, motors, filters, controls, compressors, etc. Repair or replace as needed.

  • Purchase and locate necessary supplies, parts and materials.

  • Perform carpentry, painting, electrical and related building maintenance tasks in renovating rooms, floors, floor adjustments, roofing and related tasks needing repair.

  • On call for after hour emergencies on occasion.

  • Unload trucks.

  • Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, field setup, unlocking and opening buildings.

  • Help install some appliances and equipment.

  • Handle light construction, remodeling, and repairs to any building damage.

  • Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.

  • Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.

  • Interact with students, faculty, parents, and coworkers in a positive manner.

  • Maintain a reliable attendance record.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Maintains a positive additude

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory health as certified by a competent medical authority.

  • Drug, tobacco, and alcohol free while working.

  • Ability to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work in extreme and/or inclement weather.

  • Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.

  • Occupational hazards which might include the possibility of being exposed to noise, dusts, burns from chemicals, and possible strains from improper lifting

  • Occasionally work from heights.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Flexible Hours

  • 12 Month position.

  • Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines.

  • Performance evaluated annually.
