What we want
The Technician I in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is required to perform daily laboratory activities. Performs routine diagnostic microbiology, mycology, and immunology procedures/tests.

Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
- One year in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experimental work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Responsibilities
PERFORMS GENERAL FUNCTIONS OF THE LABORATORY: Sets up sample submissions to appropriate protocol for request, records sample submissions and assigns a lab number. Performs bacterial identification and susceptibility testing, PCR, and DNA extraction. Performs immunologic assays on submitted patient samples. Communicates test results to clinician or student. Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.
MONITORS AND RECORDS DATA: Enters hospital fees into the hospital computer information system. Maintains accurate medical records. Enters test results into the hospital computer information system.
LABORATORY EQUIPMENT: Helps maintain and operate laboratory equipment.
MAINTAINS LABORATORY WITHIN VMTH: Orders supplies for the lab. Performs general laboratory maintenance.
FACILITATES FACULTY INSTRUCTION OF PROF. CURRICULUM: Assists Microbiologist with teaching duties.
BACK-UP DUTIES: Provides back-up support for other technicians in Clinical Microbiology laboratory. Performs additional duties as required. Performs other duties as required.
